Dowelling Tall Cake?

If I am making a tall cake, (7 or 8 inches tall) do you think I should put a cake board and dowel halfway between? I think I have done 7 inches before without problems, but maybe I was just lucky. What do you think?

I would put one at 4" high and dowel it.

you were just lucky thats to much weight wihout a dowel

thanks! The other ones I did were carved, so maybe there was a little less weight and that is why I got away with it. I will do it from now on.
