How Do I Put Fondant On A Square Cake?

I was really surprised to find out that putting a fondant lid on a round cake was no problem at all - I just placed it on top and ran my hands down the sides and voila! ![]()
But how do you do the same with a square cake? I can't imagine that to be just as little easy....?
I haven't attempted this yet, but from what I have gathered here you need to roll it out into a square that is a little bigger than what you need to cover the whole cake (just like with a round one) and start with the corners. make sure they are smooth and then smooth the rest of the sides just like you would a round cake. Good luck! Hopefully someone can help you more, but this will get you started. ![]()
I might need to start checking my writing before posting....Hope you got my question anyway... ![]()
I just did this last week...see my avatar or check my gallery for a larger pic. Anyway it's quite easy. Roll out your fondant big enough to cover the cake (square, circle or wiggly shape, as long as it will cover the whole thing). Put it on the cake just as you would a circle, then trim the sides but leave just a little extra on the corners. Smooth the corners down with your hands first (it really does just form that easy) then trim and smooth the sides and top. Make sure to do the corners first and somewhat quickly because if the fondant gets too dry it will crack or make a hole...which you are not going to fix by playing around with it...it will only get larger. (One of my classmates tried that). Good luck and if you have any questions just pm me.

Oh, thanks so much, guys! I was afraid to even try it, it just looks so difficult. Now I can't wait to get stuck in![]()
