So my DH calls from work yesterday tells he has put in his 2 week notice and we are finally going to move to ks. A dream of mine cause thats where all my family lives and i'm very close to them and miss them very much. We plan to move in 3 weeks time so real fast. But today it hit me that in 3 weeks we are going to be homeless with no real income. My DH has been at his job for 10 years and has made it pretty far up the ranks but its still a factory job and factory jobs in ks only pay at most 10 dollars an hour to start maybe 14 if he can get on as a supervisor but still that cuts his month wadges down to a quater of what he makes now. and i should be excited but im not im terrified I keep telling myslef that I can live on less money that I can give up some privlages if it means raising my kids around our family but we still have to be able to survive right. Ethier way I dont have a choice because he has made up his mind that we our going and Ive already told my family I just had to get this off my shoulders cause I cant be negative towards DH right now and I cant talk to my family about it because there all so excited.
I live just outside of reno nevada now so the cost of living is a bit higher
here than it will be in the south east corner of ks. however not enough to make up the difference of loosing 3,000 a month. I'm trying really hard to look at all the postives and there are many I just have to make sure we survive our housing cost our there would only be about 200 dollars less than they are here. basically if he gets a job makeing 10 dolllars an hour we will be able to afford a house payment on an older house and one car payment. but nothing else no food gas utilities etc.. but people do it right lots of people live in that area there must be a way to do it right. I guess i could go back to work if anyone would hire me after being a stay at home mom for 8 years. stores always need cake decorators right.
I'm no expert, but I always thought that wages were related to cost of living in the area. When my sister sold her house in Texas, I couldn't believe how cheap it was (to us here in Mass.) Her house would have cost 3X that much here. When you get to KS, you will probably find all your expenses are less, and manageable. You said you are from KS. Do you still have family there?
Your DH didn't discuss this with you before he put in his notice?
No my DH did not really discuss this with me he just started talked friday night about how he didnt want to live here anymore and hes ready to move then he called me sat and said he put in his notice. all my family is in ks which is why we are moving there. its wierd cause i have been trying to talk my DH into moveing there for year so I should be happy right? we rent if we were buying the cost to purchase a house would be cheaper sure but you still looking at least 1,000 house payments which is what we pay here for rent and older house in ks for about 600 a month but that doesnt make up for the loss in wadges. what it boils down to is that I will have to go to work and I just dont know how I feel about that I have been a stay at home mom and house wife for 8 years its what Iam and im good at it. I dont know anything else other than cakes really. Its just the time crunch for the move that killing me I have to be packed up and ready to go in 3 weeks and its going to take about 5,000 to rent to truck and get out there and get set up in a new house and survive until we get an income and thats oh about 3,000 more than I have right now so im under a lot of stress a lot. but thankyou for your response really I was starting to feel very lonely on here. by the way sorry its so long
Heather, that certainly sucks that you have such short notice to pack up and get out ... I can't even clean my house in three weeks, nevermind pack it up! How old are the children?
That's a fast move to have to make especially with children! I live in Salina, Ks and on the front page of our newspaper today they had an article on how Salina was rated the #8 least expensive city in the U.S. so maybe there is hope. I'm not sure exactly where you'll be. Atleast we have some factory jobs here. I grew up here but moved to Fort Worth for several years. I moved back a few years after my divorce mainly because of the kids. This is a pretty good place to raise kids and they have a great school system. I hope everything works out for you. Hopefully, being near to family will help! Good Luck!!!
Well not all factory jobs only pay $10 an hour. I know the factory jobs around me pay roughly $15+ an hour to start. It depends on where you work. I'm not saying that they all start with that, but if he looks around he could probably find something that pays more. Don't worry too much about moving. I know that it would freak me out as well. It will all work out in the end for you. Who knows maybe he'll find something that pays him what he makes now. Fingers crossed for you. Good luck!
While you're packing, it would be great if you could sell things for extra cash ... not like you have time to invest in a yard sale! Maybe somebody has some advice on how to sell stuff easily.
