Hey guys,

I still have not found my paddle attachment for my 6qt kitchenaid and when I went on-line to order one, the express shipping was $30. I ordered it but I did the slowest shipping possible which was $6 the paddle cost $14. My sons birthday is tomorrow and I MUST bake him a cake.

I went to Williams-Sonoma & they have the discontinued colors on sale (orange, green apple & cornflower blue) for $184 for the 5qt Artisan icon_eek.gif . I taught that was a GREAT DEAL icon_wink.gif so I brought one (The GreenApple). I love Green and I was so happy when I saw it. I can't wait to try her out. I always wanted 2 of them but now I am wondering If I really need 2 or should I be investing in a bigger mixer.

Anyway I am Happy. icon_biggrin.gif

I would love to have 2 KA's. I do have 3 bowls though. It has come in quite handy.

I agree - you need two mixers or at least a couple bowls for one mixer. My cheap mixer broke down a few months ago and I haven't replaced it yet. My husband doesn't understand why my KA is not enough!

See Mary I have always wanted another bowl not another mixer but now I have the best of both worlds. (I guess) icon_biggrin.gif

Two mixers is a good thing!

I have a cayenne red 6-qt and just got a 5-qt artisan in pistachio green (LOVE it).

You can't find your paddle? Do you mean you lost it? Or it didn't come with it? If it didn't come with it--they definitely owe you one. If you lost it or other...then yeah, you'd have to buy one somewhere. But having two is very very handy! I use both, sometimes simultaneously, all the time.

Homecook I was thinking that also. Having two won't hurt. I came back from my honeymoon and that paddle attachment for my 6qt was missing. The last time I used it was after my wedding I had to make 2 plain cakes and 2 cheesecakes for my sister before she went back to Florida. I always wash my bowl and paddle and put everything away. The mixer & bowl are where they should be but the paddle is missing. My kids are not one to touch my kitchenaid THEY KNOW NEVER TOUCH THE KITCHENAID.

I don't know I just ordered a new paddle but in the mean time I have a new GreenApple Baby at home. I will be using her tonight for the first time. It is so hot in New York that I don't want to bake but my sons birthday is tomorrow.

Congratulations. I have one KA (the 350 watt one) and one bowl. I LOVE it! I hope to get an additional bowl for Christmas. I hope you find the paddle you're missing too. I'm going to have to start using that one, I've been in the habit of using the wisk for almost everything- does the paddle do cakes better that the wisk? Have fun with your new baby!

Wow, I hadn't really thought about it until now. I use the whisk with the cake mixes and the frosting. I've never had a problem. Hmmmm....maybe I should use the paddle instead.

The one on 59th & Lex have 1 orange one left and the 16th street store (16th street and 7th Ave.) have 2 left. A cornflour blue and a white. Go to the web-site to get the phone numbers and call the stores tell them you want to know it they have any of the 5qt that are on sale for $184 left. You have to tell them the price because then they will tell you the 5qt is on sale for $269 but those 3 colors are on sale foe $184. Call all of the stores. They will even hold it for you or you can pay over the phone and they ship for FREE.

It almost chokes when I make Royal shhh.gif I have to sweet talk that mixer so it doesnt die on me icon_cry.gificon_redface.gif Its still alive. thumbs_up.gif I bet a Kitchen aide can do dances around it. icon_lol.gif

I have a Sunbeam also, and like you said, it's alright! BUT, My KITCHENAID is the best! It seems like it mixes better and gets closer to the sides and gets more of the batter incorperated with you having to use a spactula to get it off the sides as much. if you have an oopertunity to get one I would highly recommend it. I got mine off of ebay for $147 plus $29.95 shipping which came to about $177 which I thought was a GREAT deal!! usaribbon.gif

Ha ha. I totally understand you. I had a sunbeam that I use if I'm making multiple icings all at one time. But I purchased a refurbished KA online at Ebay a month ago and it is WONDERFUL. Can't imagine ever using anything else.

I love my kitchenaid. It was one of the best things I have ever brought. I can't wait to see what's the difference if any between the 6qt & the 5 qt.

I think if you can afford it, it's a must have. I don't understand how people manage to bake without one.

Once you have one there is no turning back.

The difference between a 6 and a 5 is this:

6-qt bowl holds 14 cups (and has more power)

5-qt bowl holds 9 cups...

Smaller is good for beating small quantities, like 4 egg whites. Bigger is good for making large volume stuff, icing, cakes etc. Just don't try pasta too many times with it or you'll burn it up. Did that...

Oh, and I only use a whisk on meringues. BCs and batters, I always use the paddle only.

I always used my whip for icing, until it was brought up on the forums here! Everybody insisted that using the whip makes bubbles in their icing. I really hadn't noticed it in my icing; but I switched to the paddle. It's at least easier to clean! I have always used the paddle for the cake batter.
