Hello all!! I am a cake decorator/patry chef that lives in Lafayette, IN (near PUrdue University). We currently have no cake clubs in our area and I was wondering if there is anyone out there in this area who would be interested in being in one? icon_biggrin.gif

CHeftobe....do you know about ICES? Indiana has a chapter and they meet about 4 times a year. We meet sometime in Oct in South Bend.
I do know that there is a cake club in Ft Wayne also and they meet at Country Kitchen Sweet Art. You can go to their website and It has info on the cake club and ICES.

Lafayette is a little far for me, I'm near Muncie. But Fort Wayne I could do. I'm gonna check that website now, thanks!

Dustbunny.....
You actually join the national ICES and you can do that online. The Indiana chapter does not have any dues because when people join from Indiana some of that money is sent to the Indiana Chapter.
Where around Muncie are you ? I live in Richmond. Actually I think that one of the State reps is from Muncie which means that one of the meetings next year will be in or around Muncie. We just elected officers and tried to get someone from each area of the state so that each of the meetings will be in their area's . I will try to find the info on the website but one person you can contact about ICES is Marsha of MRS B's cake shop in Speedway In. Her email is [email protected]

Alicia-foedge..
..where in Southern Indiana do you live? There is a KY chapter of ICES in Louisville. Darlene Nold is the person to contact on that. She owns CONWAYS Cakes out on Shelbyville Road in Louisville, KY.
Let me know if you need her email address if you are closer to Louisville than Indy. or which one you would be interested in. Louisville is a very active chapter too. Hope this info helps....I will try to get more info posted soon.

There's a US member, a charter member, and an associate member--what is the difference between these three besides the price?

I actually live halfway between Indy and Lousiville. So it would matter. The drive time is the same.

Alicia- since they only meet about 4 times a year the drive might not be too bad for you, you could consider the meetings mini vacations lol. Maybe you could find a few friends to car pool/split hotel rooms with? Thats what I hope to do anyway, hope you can find a way it sounds so fun icon_biggrin.gif

Brookej01...my sympathy's to you for Connersville but at least you do cakes...lol.
Where do you work in Richmond....I didn't know there were any (lol) jobs in Richmond. I live in Richmond but work in Indy at Methodist Hospital.
Once I get home I will try to post the Indiana ICE's chapters website. I can never remember it. Also when I get more info on the next meeting in October I will post it here.

This site is SOOOOOO addictive...I can't believe it...

Thanks alicia for posting the Indiana Ices website. It is really a new site and has only been up and running for a month or two. Hope you will all think about coming to a DOS and possibly join. You do not have to be a member to come to the DOS (day of sharing).

Brooke,

What area do you work in? I worked in Dietary of Jenkins Hall back in the late 60's early 70's. I didn't become an RN until 87 and then went to work for Methodist in Indy. My husband would love for me to work at Reid but after being a nurse for 19 plus years my base is higher than the top pay at Reid. I stay with my DD while working my 3 12 hr shifts in a row. Kill 2 birds with one stone...spend time with her and dont' have to drive back and forth to Richmond every day.

My sisters husbands parents live in Connersville. Let me tell you Richmond is not much better off than Connersville.

Sorry Mittmitt...forgot to answer this... US member is what you would be unless you joined under someone else (like if you worked for a shop and they were members) those are associate members. Charter members are ones that joined when ICES first started . So you would be a US member. You get a nice monthly magazine with that.

Brooke,

My mom was a pt on Oncology in the past. Billie Blanford is her name. She is over 13 years out from Lymphoma but still has her port. Her doc is Dr. Jag.

I worked Oncology ICU when I lived in Louisville. We did high dose chemo on our unit. Took care of leukemia/lymphomas mainly. Went back to Neuro ICU once we moved back to Indiana. My hubby wanted me to look into the Oncology coordinator that they had open a while back.

Birds of a feather stick together...cakes are a stress reliever....
Where did you go to school?

Teri,

I went to IUE in Richmond. I was the last class for old program, I don't care for the set up of the new program...too much freedom, I firmly believe in structure. LOL (if you could see the room I'm sitting in right now you'd laugh too) I know Dr. Jag well, in fact just saw him last weekend at work. I used to work during the week before children. I think Dr. Jag is great. I started admin. chemo at 6 months into my job. I've been on L4 my entire nursing career. I was absolutely terrified at first, but now its just something I do. I really love my job

As far as cake...my coworkers think cake is a stress reducer too...particularly when I bring in a practice cake. lol Actually my coworkers are the ppl I make the most cake for. A very supportive group.

Its so nice to meet someone close kinda doing what I'm doing. icon_biggrin.gif

Brooke,

yes it really a small world. I don't live very far from the hospital. I live on the corner of N 24th and Grand Blvd...right across from Roosevelt Hill. This was our first year with the fireworks in our "front yard" so to speak. We loved it. We blocked off the parking in front of our house with orange cones so that our guests would have a place to park. We had about 30 people over...it was great!

I just started taking cakes in to work ...like in the last month. They always seem to buy the bakery cakes for parties and they suck so bad. We had a pitch in at work Tues night and someone brought a bakery cake in. It had NO FLAVOR and the icing was ewww gross...
If I had been able to do a cake I would have but I didn't have the time or my equipment.

One of the girls asked if I might do a Christmas cake for her....YEP!

I like Dr Jag too. He is very sweet. He knows mom very well. He still see's her each month at the office.

Well the next Day of Sharing for Indiana ICES chapter is going to be up in South Bend, IN on October 15th. It will be a the "Landing" and will start around 830 am. The cost is 20.00 and it includes breakfast and lunch. If anyone is interested in more info then pm me and I will give you the lowdown on it. They are a lot of fun. I am planning on going up on Saturday and staying over night since it would be almost a 4 hour drive for me. So let me know if interested. You don't have to be a member to go.
