Are there any special secrets to putting fondant on a square cake? I'm making my sisters wedding cake and she wanted the layers to be square. I have read the artical concerning MM fondant, very informative, thanks.

Hello
I know some people fear covering a square cake, but with a bit of practice it is no harder than covering a round cake; I do it all the time... I could go into a long description, but it might be easier if you check this site:

http://www.baking911.com/decorating/cakes_fondantrolled_tips.htm

The site is just jam packed with recipes, hints and techiques.

Another good reference, with step by step photos is PastryWiz.
full of great hints, tips, and how-to techniques.

Enjoy... I know you will spend hours on those two sites.

ciao

This is terrific - Thank you!

Question: If the cake is for Sunday, what is the earliest that I can cover my cake with the fondant so that it stays fresh. I was thinking of putting the fondant on tomorrow night, let it sit until Friday and begin decorating on Saturday morning - do you think that timeline is okay?

Speaking of covering cakes, can someone help me... (a little bit off the topic, sorry!) I'm covering 3 tiers with MMF, the cake is for Friday morning, so I'm covering the cakes on Wednesday and decorating on Thursday, how should I store the cakes so the fondant does not get dry or crusty?? Any tips? I know I should NOT refrigerate a fondant covered cake, but I just can't figure out how to cover. I have my AC running all the time as it is very hot and humid. Or should I just live it uncovered on the countertop? Thanks, I really appreciate the help!

Hello
Uncovered on the countertop for 1 day should not be a problem.
If you feel you need to cover it, a large loose plastic bag is all you need.

This is excellent. I was about to post the same question on covering a square cake, except mine is rectangle. I have covered only round int he past.

THanks to all!
