You could use it for a cookie mold, brownies or bars, possibly a torte. Have fun experimenting. I have never seen one w/sides like that! Interesting, does it have a brand name on it?
What are the pan dimensions? It appears to be an insert for a ring pan with interchangeable bottoms, like a springform pan, but no locking mechanism. The insert just lays in the bottom. It is NOT the Wilton pan insert, that heart is puffy.
It could also be a chocolate mold.
Edited to add this link to my website, with ring pan inserts pictured (not yours though, sorry) so you can at least understand what I am talking about:

I'm guessing a flan pan. The only time that I ever tasted flan, it was a yellow sponge cake in a pan such as this with custard and fruit in the filling, being in the indentation in the top of your pan.

It is a flan tin, I have one just like it somewhere used once many moons ago.![]()
Thanks everyone.
Now all I have to figure out is if it is a flan pan (two votes) or a ring insert (which it certainly looks like according to SugarFrosted's site).
Sugar--It is 10" across and about 1" deep. If it is a ring insert, how is it used exactly? Thanks in advance!
I'm hoping to keep this post in circulation as I need another answer.
The pan is 10" across. If it is to be used with a springform pan, it does not fit a 10" ring (I tried--I couldn't close the hinge). Do they make rings slightly larger to accomodate these types of inserts? SugarFrosted? Anyone? Thanks!
If it's a bottom for a ring pan it's not the type with the locking thing like for cheesecake. The rings with inserts were a solid ring that the bottom dropped into. I've seen them on ebay. Wilton sold all these pieces seperatly, the 1978 yearbook shows 12 different designs but the ring didn't come with any of them.
I don't mean to hijack your post, Cookieman, but... SugarFrosted, you must have like a million cake pans on your website. I am blown away by how many you have. What do you do with them? Are they for sale or are you just using them to bake cakes? I have never seen so many pans ever. Very cool.
Cookieman, I don't know anything about the cake pan you posted, but I hope you figure out what to do with it soon. Sorry I barged in here, but at least I gave you a bump.
I tried to open this thread a couple days ago when I got an email there was a reply, but the website told me this thread did not exist. And not just once. I suppose it was a glitch.
As mbelgard said, it is not a Wilton insert, if an insert is what it actually is. My suggestion that it was an insert was just a guess. So I don't really know.
projectqueen, I have over 700 pans in my collection. I have lost count how many precisely, and I have recently bought some new ones, too. No they are not for sale, sorry. I do use them to bake cakes. After almost 20 years, I have used only about 1/3 of them, maybe even as few as 1/4 considering I keep buying new ones I find. I keep waiting for someone to ask me to bake a Popeye or a Yosemite Sam. Thanks for asking ![]()
