This is my first time attempting to decoratr a cake and I was tring to dye the homemade buttercream icing and I can not get the color I am going for.... I am tring to get the primary colors blue, red, yellow, green and I can not get them "deep" enough. I know the red is the hardest..but that is the only one that turned out ok. Is there a trick to it or do I just keep adding color.....I am using the wilton colors. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREAT!!!! Thank you.

Let them sit for a while, the darker colors do take quite a bit of coloring but they will darken upon sitting. If they aren't dark enough overnight add some more until you get the shade you want.

It takes quite a bit of color to get deep colors. Also, if you can let it sit for a couple of hours, the color will intensify.
Good luck!

Here is a link Ive found very helpful in mixing colors

I also agree with the others, the brighter and darker the colors the more you will need and they do intensify in color after sitting overnight.
I prefer Americolor over Wilton but do use both. HTH!

even with wilton or americolor you have to let it sit a day or 2 to get a very nice shade of red. or just dump the entire bottle in and make everyones teeth red!!!! lol
but at time the other color that you use make the red look actually redder then what it is. such as black when i do the fbct i outline in black so when i use the red it looks deeper. icon_smile.gif
