I am doing a 70's themed cake. I was thinking of a 3D disco ball, but not sure if it will work. Tell me what you think:
Sports ball pan with grey BC.
Small cut squares of fondant attached all over.
(Thankfully the cake isn't THAT big).
Airbrushed with silver lustre dust.
Should I add any colors to random squares to break it up a bit?
Lustre dust container says non-toxic, so can they eat it?
Any suggestions?
Someone did exactly that not too long ago on this site and it looked great! I will check the gallery for you.

Of course, I can't find it!! I am not quite sure what she could have saved it under! There is a red one under "disco ball" search, but it's not the one I was thinking of. This one was very similar but had silver squares all around the ball.
I will keep looking and let you know if I run across it.

it sounds adorable! I'd love to see pics when it's done!
Not a dumb question at all...matter of fact, it was my first time doing it with lustre. And yes, I dissolve it in vodka (others use everclear) since it evaporates fairly quickly. Then spray it on. The consistency is a ton thinner than when you paint it on with an art brush- obviously because it needs to get through the airbrush tube. That part was so fun and easy I wanted more to spray!!
