I have been asked to do a baby shower cake with a fish theme. I thought I would do a 12" and 8" stacked cake. Everytime I start planning the cake it just seems to old for a baby shower, I'm just not sure how to do it. Does anyone on here have any ideas or pictures, also where is a good website for sculpting fish or characters, thanks so much, Cathy

I would use Nemo as fish for on top and make something in that line. That´s certainly something for little children. I saw lately a babyshower cake (not stacked just with a fondant puzzle ) with Nemo on it and it appeared that the parents had their baby's room all in Nemo style, really liked it.

Good luck!! thumbs_up.gif

Here is some links to pics I found in the galleries that would look so cute as a baby shower. To me, what would make it a cute baby shower cake it to have the fish really bright colors. Sorry so many, just thought they were so cute and wanted to include them=) Jen

There's one in my photos that I did for a baby shower. I guess it might not seem much like it's for a baby now that you mention that, but I took my inspiration from the baby's room and a few under the sea cakes here on CC. I guess unless you put bonnets on all the fish, it won't really seem very "babyish"

Thanks Ali, love your cake, i'm sure that is what she has in mind, wish me luck, hopefully I can make something similar. The lady when she ordered the cake said "I can't wait to see your next masterpiece" now I feel the pressure is on to make something really special, so I have been stressing over this one. thanks again, Cathy

Thanks - and don't worry about it. Remember that most people don't have the wonderful cakes on CC as a point of reference. You may see the flaws in your work, but it's the rare customer that will have anything but praise for one of your cakes!

Thanks Newbee Baker for including my lame attempt at that fish cake. It turned out OK but it was my first time using fondant (I used Wilton, ick) and wow, was it a struggle since I had noooo idea what I was doing icon_smile.gif.

Anyway I just wanted to post the original pic I used for inspiration for the cake. At the time I had only just joined CC so didn't know about the protocol of crediting the original decorator, and had no idea how to use My Favorite Photos, so I'd just saved the pic on my hard drive with no reference to who did the cake. Later (after I'd wised up) I couldn't find it in the gallery, found some others as I know it was a Wilton design, but this decorator really did a fantastic job on it.

So, whomever did this cake, kudos, it was really beautiful. I'd comment on it now and thank you, but I don't know who you are icon_smile.gif.

Anyway I thought you should all see how far this idea can really go. Just use pastel colors, it'd be fab!

Of course I REALLY love the one fish two fish idea too!!
