I just took my cake out of the pan and it broke off at the top. I use a 10x15 pan so it is a pretty big cake. Why would it rip at the top and what can I do to help the whole cake to come out without any rips out breaks.thanks icon_smile.gif

Depends on how big the break is and how many crumbs are lost in the break.
Was it cool?
Was it done?
Did it break or stick to the pan?
My thoughts - you can try to "glue" the break back together if it is for family use. If for $$$ you might have to make another depending on the severity of the break. Sorry icon_sad.gif

I have put buttercream down on the broken part and then added the "plug". Then press it slightly to "glue" it back together. Be sure the cake to totally cool. It might not be pretty but it can fix it. Also try not to move the cake much.

Hamlove, if you want to prevent this from happening in the future, use parchment. I always cut a piece to fit in the bottom of my pans (just the bottom not the sides), spray the entire inside of the pan with release spray(except for sponge cakes) and it all comes out whole every time! This works really well with all sizes of cakes. Good luck thumbs_up.gif

Yes, parchment, baby!

For now glue together with icing.

It'll be okay!
