Now, you wouldn't think it would be difficult coming up with a cake for a luau but i am having trouble. the cake is for a Jack and Jill to serve 70-80 people. i was thinking maybe 3 tiers stacked. waves on the bottom tier, palm trees/coconuts on the middle tier and i don't have a clue for the top tier. or i may scrap the whole idea. i don't know. i am sooooo confused : )
just having a major mind block. any ideas? pretty please? thank you!
I just did a luau cake for my daughter's birthday. Had about 28 kids plus average of 1 adult per child. I made a bigger cake than necessary, just because I wanted my idea to look right. I used oval pans and did a two tier. The top tier was offset to the right and back of the bottom tier, so it wasn't smack in the center. This worked well when I was cutting the cake too. To decorate it, I used one of my daughter's Bratz dolls for the hula dancer on the top tier. I dusted both tiers with sanding sugar I made a gum paste palm tree with coconuts(not the easiest thing I've ever done, but it came out pretty good). At the base of the palm tree I did some grass and added some rocks (also out of gum paste). Both tiers had a flower and leaves "lei" border. I used royal icing drop flowers in assorted neon colors. I was going to do a waterfall from the tree to the board, but decided it might be too much. I was happy with the way it turned out and got lots of gasps of surprise from several of the attendees.
I hope this helps with developing your luau cake.
what if the top tier was a coconut? like with a sports ball pan?
I just did a cake with a FBCT of hibiscus flowers on top. Or I have seen where people have made hibiscus flowers out of royal icing using the largest lily nail and basically making a big petunia with tip 104. I thought they looked lovely.
