In August, I am making a sheet cake for a birthday party. I need some pointers for this, for the simple fact that I have never done it before. Please help, any good ideas on how to pull this off? Thanks, and I am willing to go buy whatever it takes in order for this to come out right. And on the bright side, I have over a month for trial and error cakes... LOL Thanks in advance for all your help.

Well first off do you have a half sheet cake pan? If so you will need two mixes to make one cake and another two for your second half. I use dental floss or I have heard people use fishing line to torte the cakes. THat is all I can offer because I have never done a full sheet cake yet! Good Luck

How big is the sheet cake going to be 1/4, 1/2, full? Either way I've seen it done a couple different ways...First, you could buy a frame for the size you are going to be creating and build it in a frame or just build it freehand. If you build it free hand make sure to trim all of the sides once you are ready to frost so it will be straight. Building the cake you can have as many layers as you want, typically you will have 3 layers of cake and 2 layers of fillings. cake - filling - cake - filling - cake, do a crumb coat with buttercream and cover with fondant or more buttercream. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Sheet cake means different things to different people.

To best determine what size you need, figure out how many servings you need than check Wilton party charts to determine cake pan size.

I like to spray the pan with cooking spray and put a sheet of wax paper down and then put in the cake batter. When you turn the cake out, it will not stick to the pan.
