My husband and I are starting a bakery/cafe that will also have gelato made fresh daily. I want to call the business Sugarland. I like it...I think it has snap! It is also a town in Texas that for a long time was the capital of the American sugar industry. In fact, I have my first cookbook, from 1971, that was printed by the Imperial sugar company in Sugarland Texas.

Mr. MBA icon_confused.gif ( that would be my DH) wants to "run it by a few focus groups" to see if the name is " too Texan" or if it has universal appeal.

Here is what I like about it.:

We are going for a 1962 southern, preppy sort of a vibe, and to me, Sugarland is also a place, sort of like Pleasantville.

It doesn't lock us in to one identity. If our bakery ends up doing a huge breakfast sticky bun business - fine. If the gelato takes off, fine. It all fits in with the branding of the shop.

To me it is just a "happy" name.

I would love to hear what you all think. Will you be my focus group icon_rolleyes.gif ?

I think it sounds great, but then I like Sugarland, has some great parks. I would check to see if the name is available for a website. Whatever name you go with you want the same name for your website, if you are going to have one. Good Luck.

I love the way it sounds, when I first moved to Texas I couldn't believe there was a place with such a delightful name as Sugarland. You didn't say where you were located, I would just worry that it would make people think of the actual town? Then they would be thinking "Sugarland what?" You know what I mean?

Sugarland is also the name of a country music duo who are currently very popular so google hits may pull them and not your store but I do love the name.

Yeah, the first thing I thought of was the country music group. To me, that's the only drawback. Otherwise, it's a great name.

Good luck with starting your new business!

I like the name. However how close are you to the city Sugarland? Also I would think it would be hard to pull you up on the web. Just some things to keep in mind. Good luck

I think it's very cute! Easy to remember, makes you want to take a trip there. If you add bakery, or bake shop to the name, "Sugarland Bakery" etc. then you could make that your email or website, SugarlandBakery.com, etc. and then it would be easy to find. Go for it!

Thanks everybody!!!!!!!!!!!! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

I own the domain names, sugarlanddesserts.com, sugarlandbakery.com, sugarlandgelato.com, sugarlandchapelhill.com and sugarlandbakeshop.com. With that many choices, I figure somebody would have to be a complete idiot not to find us doing a web search, especially since I have a really good web guy who's great at search engine optimization.

I am just going to use it. It's my shop and that's where I want to be....Sugarland! icon_rolleyes.gif
