I have been lurking on this website for about a year now but I have never posted until now. I have such a passion for cake decorating but I'm afraid to do it. I'm afraid I'm not going to be good enough. I've made cakes for my children's birthday and I have always been complimented on them. I made two cupcake bouquets for my children's teachers. All the parents were amazed by how great they looked but yet I'm still afraid.

Were any of you like this and do you have any advice?

Justine

Welcome to CC!!!

I wouldn't be scared if you enjoy it! A little nervous if people will like your work is normal in my opinion. Confidence is a hard thing to get in charge of but with practice and experience you will gain control of it! icon_smile.gif

I am just begining and have to say go for it. Take the classes and practice, practice, practice. The best part is even when it doesn't look good it still tastes good and once its cut who notices anyway.

My first birthday cake took me two days to decorate. It was a character cake. The first day was putting it off, the second was scared to mess it up. JUST DO IT. The frog prince grooms cake in my pics took me less time than that character cake and it was stacked, torted, carved, covered with fondant, and delivered with a smile. thumbs_up.gif

I can understand being nervous about posting pics here. But, I promise, none of us bite! icon_lol.gif

It's such a wonderful place to improve your skills and get feedback about what works and what doesn't. I think you'll be very glad you posted! I'd really love to see your work!

It just takes jumping in and doing it. It gets easier as you go and you will learn tips on here. You will find that most people will be amazed at what you can do, even your worst cake, people will ooh and ahh about. That is what I have found. I am not at the caliber most on here are, but I just keep plugging along and learning as I go. I think that I am finally getting better though.

Post pictures of you cakes!

Hey Justine!

Congrats on your first posting! thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif I still have some big time insecurities when it comes to cake decorating and selling my cakes. At first I thought are my friends and family just being nice? icon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gif With time though I started to realize that I wasn't too bad and actually pretty good at certain things. When non-family members started asking about my cakes, my confidence slowly began to bloom. It will come with time and experience. There will be tremendous triumphs in your creations and once in a while disappointing disasters. I am sure your cakes and desserts are beautiful. This is the best place to sharpen your skills, learn great new techniques and tips and best of all a wonderful support system. I say go for it!!!!! You only live once as they say! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif
