My sister just got a new puppy a week ago and we are throwing her a small puppy shower. I want to make a cake for the occassion and was hoping for some inspiration. I have thought about doing a dog bone shaped cake, but I am just not sure. Suggestions please! icon_biggrin.gif

How about a lovely pretty cake - roses, swags all cutsey lovely with muddy dog paw prints going right across it, a poo sat curled on one of the roses - one or two of the roses torn off and 'dragged' across the cake, a little yelloow piping gel 'wee' puddle etc. etc. It would reflect how her lovely calm life is about to be trashed - speaking as someone with a 7 month old pup I think this about reflects it and should raise a smile!

That is a really cute idea!! I like that a lot, and it's very true! (Mine is a yr old but she still acts like a new pup)
Another idea is a cupcake cake. I made one in the shape of a Corgie, but they are really easy so you could certainly do it for any breed. Already precut for easy serving.

Thanks for the ideas! I never thought to "mess up" a pretty cake... that would be really funny!

Are there other dogs invited to this shower ? is it a cake that they (dogs) are able to eat ? would there be goodie bags too ? Maybe a tiny chew bone and a little toy in each bag ? That puppy shower thing sounds so cute. icon_smile.gif

You know it was kind of a spur of the moment decison. My sister is acting just like a new Mom worrying over every detail! So a puppy shower seemed like the perfect thing for her. I know there will be at least one other dog there as the host has one (I am just in charge of the cake) but a doggie favor would be fun.

I was going to tell you to stack up a couple of loaf pans and make a dog using the grass tip all over for fur, but I just love emmascakes' idea. Do the nicest cake you can, and put paw prints allover it. You might even smash one of the sides in a little, like the dog jumped on it. You could even thinly slice some licorice or twizzlers and leave little "hairs" on the cake.

I love that messy cake idea. Take a before the dog got to it and an after that dog got to it pic. Post whatever you decide to do. I can't wait to see it no matter what you decide.

I really want to see someone do that cake that looks messed up by a dog. I'm going to try that idea in September for my SIL who just got a Husky puppy. That dog gets into everything she has. I think it would be so funny for her to have a messed up cake as well! Oh well, if no one else does it first I guess I'll have to use my imagination, huh? If anyone has done anything like this though, I would really like to see it.

thanks, yes she loved it...thinks its my best yet...but I think she is a little bit biased. I also made Dog bone cookies with pink and green frosting....the kiddos at the "shower" loved eating the dog bones!

I think the puppy shower idea is so much fun!

I've joked about having one in the past!

Hmm... can you register for one? 6 months worth of dog food woudl really help out! LOL!

I LOVE the mesed-up cake idea. As an added idea...thinking of my 1 yr. old toy poodle...how about a bone cookie coming out as if it had been buried there.

I saw your cake. GREAT!! I probably would have done the pretty cake too. icon_razz.gif

Thanks everyone! My sister has been wanting a puppy for years, and it has always had to be an alaskan malamute. Then after my baby shower and my other sister's baby shower, my middle sister asked so who is going to throw a shower for my pup whenever I get her......fast forward ahead about 2 years and we didnt forget! There is actually information online about them but it certainly isnt something we had ever seen here in KC Missouri! It wasnt a huge deal, just immediate family and a couple of dog loving friends...but we had a good time.
