Hi all!

I'm a newbie working on a bridal shower cake for my sorority sister and I want to have a cascade of huge pearls falling from the top of the cake.

For those who've done this before, how do you make the super-huge pearls and keep them consistent in size? Is there a mold?

What are the steps for making them look real? I was also thinking about doing various sizes for a nice effect. Is there a recommendation on size ratio?

Any help you can offer would be appreciated!

I have made homemade pearls before. Earlenescakes.com gives you the directions. Basically you roll out your fondant between two skewers (to make it all the same thickness), and punch out circles using a large round piping tip. I have made them small using a 10 and 12 tip. Then roll them into balls. When half dry roll them in pearl dust.

Good luck.
