If I bake, torte, fill, and crumb coat a cake, as it thaws, will the filling cause the layers to slide or will it be okay? I have never tried this before.
I have to transport a wedding cake to a location four hours away, and I need to do the prep work here and finish it at the site.

Thanks.

I can only say that I did fill and crumbcoat a cake, put it in the freezer and then a few days later, took it out and covered it with fondant, it just went fine.

I think this also depends a bit on the filling but also, as far as I know, it is important for a cake to thaw slowly... so if it stays cool, i don't think this will be a problem.

Good luck!

I think the condensation when it thaws may cause some issues with your crumbcoat..........I haven't tried it, I always completely thaw my cakes before filling and crumbcoating, but I am sure someone here has suggestions.

I would definatly crumb coat it to keep it from sliding around.
