I have this phobia of running out of a color of icing half way through decorating, so I always have left overs. Any ideas what to do with it so I don't throw so much away.

Freeze them in small containers. Defrost in microwave on low setting right in the container until it's the consistency you want.

you could mix leftovers together to make a bunch of a new color (provided the colors go well together). you don't even have to blend completely unless you want to, it could be a cool marble effect.

Yep if you have room in the freezer, that's where it should go. Ready when ever you are. I tried defrosting mine in the microwave and it must have been too high cause I got soup.

you have to defrost it on the lowest setting, checking and stirring every 5-10 seconds or so.

I freeze mine if I have room in the freezer. I just take it out the day before I want to use it and let it defrost on the counter... if I forget I set it on top of my stove when the oven is on... near the vent so it gets a little bit of the warmth.

Otherwise someone recently posted they mix all of their left over colors together (no matter what they are) and they turn black when mixed together.

I freeze mine-I have done several cakes that needed just a "touch" of a color and it worked out great!

I used to freeze leftover icing thinking I would have it handy for next time.... But I actually just ended up having it handy for a late night SNACK.. icon_confused.gif

Somehow my willpower went straight down the drain when I started decorating, so my advice? If you have the icing weakness that I do, throw it away!! Your pants will thank you later icon_wink.gif

How long will it keep in the freezer?

I keep mine for no more than 2 weeks-usually wind up using it before that anyway.

I feel like a fool, did not realize that you could freeze the icing. I have been throwing mine away or the kids are eating it. Same as above, how long will it stay good?

Still no response, so I'll ask again. How long will the frosting keep in the freezer?
