Need To Make A Trophy 3 D Cake
Decorating By blessBeckysbaking Updated 20 Jun 2007 , 11:55am by mullett
I'm thinking the doll wonder mold upside downon top of a 3x2 stack on a 4x2. covered in fondant painted gold. but my question is will that doll cake stand being top heavy? will a center dowel work or will it need much more support? the pans stack looks great but will cake do this? Help!
That's a very good question! Sorry, I don't know the answer! What's the trophy for? Not all trophys are cups ... in fact most have little figures on the top. If you have time to make the wonder mold cake and balance it on the others for a day or so to see if it's steady, try it. If it doesn't balance and nobody can come up with a solution, consider doing a fondant figure on top of your cylindrical cakes instead.
well if all else failes I guess I can lay it down maybe someone might know
Wow y0our description on to do sounds great... i would probably ice each part seperately to start with and i would be inclined to use 2 dowell supports right thru the lot or if able to fit it 3... i would also however have some foam board between each cake though as dowell when sharpened will go through it... this is just all guess work as i have never done anything like it but is probably what i would try myself.
Good luck let us know how it goes and a pic would be great...

That's a good idea.
Last weekend I made a stacked cake that looked like a fire hydrant, same principles as what you are describing. I used 3 dowels, but is was top-heavy and gravity did take hold. It held it's shape enough although some of the gumpaste decorations cracked. Luckily it was for a family member who didn't expect me to bring a cake to the party... I might recommend making the cup out of gumpaste or pastillage if you re in a humid climate. It would be much lighter and give you more design options.
I've made a tiered cake before which had a trophy on top that I had from pastillage. I draped the pastillage over a bowl and made the 'stalk' and 'base' by hand. Just a thought in case you can't work out a cake idea.
thanks all well I will be trying it out in a few days the cake is for Saterday I'll try to take a lot of pics and remember what I did...lol (that will be the hard part) I'll use a lot of dowels and a dense cake .... thanks again
USE THE DOLL CAKE PAN AND PACK IT AS TIGHT AS YOU CAN WITH RKT. USE A PLATE THAT WILL FIT IN THE TOP OF THE PAN AND COMPRESS THEM AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. THEN I REFRIGERATE THEM FOR A COUPLE OF DAY. THEN CARVE OUT THE INSIDES TO MAKE A CUP. COVERING THIS WITH FONDANT WILL ALLOW IT TO KEEP ITS SHAPE. I START IN THE BOTTOM AND ALLOW THE SEAM EXCESS TO SIT IN THE BOTTOM OF THE INSIDE. IF NECESSARY, YOU CAN FILL THE CUP WITH SOME CANDY COINS OR SOMETHING. HOPE THIS HELPS.
