That looks awesome! I couldn't get the hang of that rose. Mine kept falling apart.
My instructor told us we could do whatever we wanted for our final cake, as long as it used techniques we had learned in the three courses. SO, I am taking a totally different approach, and making a luau themed cake. I have been working all day on fondant fish and royal icing flowers! ![]()
I have not done course 2 yet, that is happening during August, my first class is next Monday!! For the month of July she was not offering 2, and I was worried about skipping around, but it worked out all right!!
I love the color variation and placement of your roses, and the cake looks great! You did a wonderful job!
Angie
teacher said three different shades of a color or three different colors, so PINK is my favorite color so PINK it is!!!!
Oh that's really beautiful! What did you do with it after you took it home?
Beautiful job with the fondant roses. They ARE alot of work...but so worth it! If you want constructive criticism....(and I could be saying this same thing to myself! LOL), I'd spend a little time perfecting the ruffled border. I really like these, but have done very few since my own course III. It's a great skill that's underused. Best to you!

I am so glad to hear you skipped course 2, because that is exactly what I am doing. Our teacher only teaches 2 & 3 every other month. I was worried I would miss out on something. Your cake is absolutely beautiful and I can only hope mine looks half as good as yours does next month. ![]()
Thank you all for the responses!!!
Phoov, I totally agree about my ruffler border it SUCKS!!! The teacher showed us the technic pretty quick and I really have not practiced it as much as I would like and for class night, my icing was too thin, and I was so frustrated with the icing, I just did my best. I agree PRACTICE makes PERFECT. I am remaking this cake again, for my Mom in August but the roses will be purple, so I am hoping my border will be better. I just love the way it looks when it comes out right.
TheVienneaus, both cakes were lemon, filled with lemon curd, I took the cake home, and my family LOVED it, it is now GONE!!! As, for the roses, I kept them, as I could NOT throw them away, alot of work in them. Right now they are in a PINK box wrapped in tissue paper, any one have ideas as what I can do with them???
I just love this site!!! Take Care!

Your cake looks awesome! Our teacher told us that fondant roses would keep for a LONG time...she didn't however define long. How in the world did you keep your family from eating them? I had trouble getting enough for my final cake as my children were sneaking them!

Brenda, store them in Tupperware in your cabinet. Here and there you will probably make a cake that could use a few roses, and you'll have them all ready. Fondant will last in a sealed container at room temperature for a very long time ... I think more than a year. I'm sure that question has come up before of how long they can be stored. Maybe, if you're interested, you could search the forums. I had stored some at room temperature for ten months. I just used the rest of it last weekend.

Can someone eat them if they wanted to after that amount of time? Would they taste ok? Just curious if they would still be hard to the touch or not.
Thanks.
Great looking cake. I was going to make this cake for my last one until the instuctor told me how many fondant roses I would need. I then decided to do my own thing and made a tropical cake with lots of flowers that looked like the flowers from a lei.

Yes, they taste fine and there isn't anything perishable in them.
