okay, I JUST posted a castle cake picture where i did a stone effect. I got the idea from another member, what i did was pipe tip 12 dots all over the cake and when it crusted I patted down with a paper towel. For a brick effect you could pipe rectangles and then pat down a little bit with the towel. Its not hard, just time consuming!! Good luck, the picture may still be on the home page if not look in my photos, its the first one. Good luck!!!

Sometimes, just the suggestion of what you want will work also. See link for a cake that I did. I used just a few brick shaped triangles to give the 'feeling" of brick. HTH

You could just draw them in the icing to get the effect you want.

when I made the bricks for my yellow brick road, I just made indents with the back of a butter knife.

I have a cake with bricks in my photos. I used the flat side of the basketweave tip. on white icing. I started from the top so i could get the staggering correct

hello
I agree with Pam, the easiest way is to cover the whole cake with white icing and then pipe colored 'bricks' very thinly over the white, leaving just a small line in between; flip the tip around and you can use it for 'shingles' on the roof.
if you have the right tools (mat or press) you can get the look of bricks on fondant, and then paint with gel color disolved in vodka.
have fun with it.
ciao

All the responses are great and soooo helpful. Thanks everyone. I couldnt finish the cake last night because the baseball player cake I had tomake for my mother in laws birthday took longer than I expected. I am hoping to finish the neighbors cake tonight to bring over to them. I will be sure to post the pictures when I am done. I think Iam going to use the basketweave tip and I love the idea for the shingles!! Thanks again!!! icon_biggrin.gif
