How do you get nice bold colours in your frostings and fondant. I like to make my own and haven't figured out how to get my frosting colours nice and deep. You can only add so much colouring until the frosting starts to separate or whatever. Yukk

Thanks!

Hi. Welcome to CC! Gel colors are best for tinting frosting. Americolor gels have vibrant colors and you use less... Cakecentral has great prices on them.

Welcome! I use gel colors and I also add dry food coloring when I need darker colors. Works great, just takes a little time for the colors to develop. Hope that helps! icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the suggestions ladies. I use Wilton gel colors. Very hard to find good products here in Canada. I'm from Vancouver.

So, you say that they should sit a bit and will become deeper? My black is like a shiny, dark grey. I also heard to get a good black, to use cocoa powder? Interesting!

If you don't want the chocolate flavor (or a customer can't have the caffiene) then start by coloring your white icing brown then add your black. Same concept just using gels instead.

For red you can start with pink and then add the red coloring.

I highly suggest ordering Americolor gels for the dark colors. You can order them out of the Cake Central shop. I have heard that their shiping to canada is very reasonable. Plus they have the best prices on the internet for Americolor.
