I did a cake once that needed water on it, it was piping gel colored in blue.

Pootchi is right most of the C.C.'ers use colored piping gel.
Anyone with other ideas?

I used pipping gel. For the slide it says to use airheads, it fell because it becomes limb after out. I would use sugarpaste or fondant next time. The side for the waves I could not roll out the airheads wide enough so I airbrushed the waves. I really enjoyed this cake.

You mean the one with the lifesaver rings with teddy graham people in them? A friend of mine really wants to make this cake for her daughter so I've put a lot of thought into it. First of all, I think blue jello with cake would be disgusting, but I don't think blue piping gel gives quite the effect. What I think should be done is make the sheet cake, cut out the pool design into the center of the cake and then line with saran wrap or if you have a plastic container that would be concealed nicely in there, you could use that as well. Put the blue jello in that so people could eat that or cake, but seperately. I think you could something a little less homemade looking for the tubes and "people" in the pool too, maybe little fondant people or something.

I made a Luau cake for my daughter and I used that Jello idea for the water. The kids loved it!!! I also put chocolate shells in it. It was easy to do and molded fine.

I did a pool cake for my son. I made a cut out the shape of the pool about half the depth of the cake and lined it with fondant, then filled with slightly thickened jello. It held up fine.

The Jello pretty much stayed where you put it. It didn't spread into the entire cake like I thought it might do. I did like the directions said for that picture your talking about.
Forgot to add that on my last post, this heat it getting to me icon_cool.gif .

I don't mind the jello idea, but I would make it more like the jigglers recipe, so you can cut it when you serve it. Also use a lot of ice, or wait til it is partially set up.

They reccommend the jello because it is probably one of their advertisers. Also it's an item that is readily available in grocery stores.
