Depends on whether or not you need to be licensed, and what the licensing requirements are...
Depends on whether you can get all used or have to get new equipment. Depends on how much equipment you already own and what you have to pick up.
Depends on how much any construction will cost.
Depends on whether you own your own building, or if you will be paying $1000 to $2500 monthly rent or if you can run it out of your home or not.
hey there I see you are in Nashville, I am in M'boro, I have not looked in depth as to whatyou have to do right now to be a licensed home baker but I do knwothat you have to take a food safety course at UT that is $100 just a one day course. then you have to pay $50 a year for home health inspections, you have to have a separate fridge for nothignbut your business stuff and a separate washign area outside of the kitchen (can be your bathroom) outside of that info I am not sure, although the guy I spoke with made it seem like they were pretty lenient on the rules so it does not sound like it is too expensive to get licensed here in TN. I am planning to take the course soon and hopefully I will get a better idea of what exactly has to be done.
mine is an "occationally paying hobby" lol, I am in the same boat as you, I want to start it as a business as well and am slowly working my way to getting there .... my brother who is a chef in the navy and my mother and I have a semi long term goal of having a family catering business, but until my brother gets out of the navy (he is in hawaii right now) I am going to start up an in home bakery so I can hopefully quit my current part time job, I get to work at home for this job but it is still a JOB working for someone else and I am getting major burnt out on it.
I plan to call tomorrow to see when the next food safety class is and I will relay that info back to you if you would like.
