Ok here it goes.....My best friends cousin (big close family I know most of them) is getting married first in Vegas then a celebration here at home. I have been asked in a round about way to do her cake. (Another aunt in the family has made many family wedding cakes and she wasn't asked to do this one) First of all they know I haven't done a Wedding Cake yet & have only been decorating since May.

Well I talked with one of the aunts yesterday and found out some interesting things. The Wedding in Vegas still isn't booked supposed to be for the beginning of August. Secondly date for the party at home is changing constantly (Sept 16 beginning of Oct). What should I do???? I think what they expect for a wedding cake and what I expect for a wedding cake are 2 different things. Like I can whip it up like nothing. Ok this is what I know they want a couple of cakes & Calla lilies (fresh fake or gumpaste ? - they/bride has no idea). Thats it.....do they want it stacked? Tiers? Or separate cakes? Flavors & fillings???? I am starting to have dreams about this cake. I am a planner/organized and some thing like this I want to start planning now or should I just let it go. They know I need to order products still, we live in a small city.....I wish they would get there poop in a group and let me know. Did I make sense???

Newbie needing support.
Thanks

Well, if you are going to do gumpaste callalillies you can make those in advance and let the dry.
The other stuff, just go with the flow.

have you spoken to the bride? I would not worry about anything until you have spoken directly to her-find out what she wants, when she wants it, and most importantly how much shes willling to pay for it

If they've actually made an order from you make the lilies and just wait to see what they decide about everything else. If they want something but don't give you enough time to order it's not your fault that you can't do it.

I agree with not ever booking a cake through a third person. Just asking for aggravation with that one. I'm sure you'll do great if you do the cake. Think about what you can do and what you want to do. I would suggest (even though it's family--especially because it's family) sitting down for a tasting and talk about the cake, even writing up an order--Even if you will be doing the cake for free.

If you don't have clear communication, this could be just another sob story on CC! We want a good report!!!
