I'm doing a birthday cake for a little girl and her most favorite thing is dressing up. I've done a pirate treasure chest cake and it turned out really neat. I'm thinking of altering that and doing a dress up chest instead.
I was thinking about draping the clothing out of the chest with pearls etc. I think it sounds doable and could be *really* cute. Anyone ever done anything similar and how did it work?
No, I haven't done it but it sounds to me like the shoebox cakes (with the paper coming out the outsides) and they look always great and not to complicated.
The idea of the trunk is great, and yes leave some clothes out of it or put a scarf or nice hat (with flowers etc on it) on top of it, add some pearl necklaces and I think your daughter will go crazy of enthusiasm ![]()

It sounds really great to me!!
Good luck!

There is a dress up box cake in Debbie Brown's 50 easy cakes book, where the little girl is sitting in the box wearing a big floppy hat, and there are boas and pearls and all kinds of other dress uppy stuff coming out. I love this cake and wanted to do it for my daughter, so I thought I'd share!

Your dress up cake sounds great! I have an order this week with the same theme, but the mom didn't want to pay the price I was asking for the cake. I'm so bummed because like your idea, I thought it was going to be so much fun. Instead I did a sheet cake and added all kinds of doo-dads on the cake to represent dressing up. I made a string of pearls and a ton of chocolate molds of jewelry, shoes, purses, flowers...
Awww darn it...you're gonna have so much fun!!!! ![]()
