has anyone tried to ship fondant figures? Any ideas on how to? andkeep them from getting overly soft or melting?

I haven't done it with fondant but have shipped pastillage figures successfully. They dry harder and faster than fondant.

I shipped fondant babies (for twins) from NY to FL. I wrapped really well with bubble wrap and packing peanuts. I also threw a few silica gel packs - the kind you get when you buy shoes - in the box. A few small peices fell off, but the recipient was able to reattach. She still has them 2 years later.
