i cant stop thinking of the old cartoon, spy vs. spy and REALLY want to incorporate a round, black 3d bomb with a fuse on it, which i will use the wilton round sports ball pan. the rest...i am at a loss for GOOD ideas. it will need to feed around 20-25, i dont care for sheet cakes, but ????
i would like to use footprints, a mangifying glass and the bomb. his invitations had everything printed backwards to be decoded....
ideas? colors, mediums? fbct, choc transfers, fondant? thanks !
Even though you don't like sheet cakes, could you do one underneath? I looked at your party ware and thought you could use those basic colors in the background. Then make the Magnifying glass out of fondant or gumpaste (maybe you could put piping gel over the "glass" portion) with the footprints leading to your 3-D bomb cake (all on top of the sheet cake, of course.)
I want to see the pix when you're done ![]()
That was really weird
. I had more on the message (up there) than actually posted. Anyway, I also had written maybe you could (if there is room) make an envelope w/ a note coming out of the top that has "Happy Birthday" but written backwards like a code?
Maybe you should make the cake to look like the partyware, out of a frozen buttercream transfer? Will your son know the spy vs. spy reference to the bomb? If not I wonder if the bomb would seem out of place? If you did the plate design on the top of the cake, maybe you could make footprints all around the sides and then maybe happy birthday _____ could be written backwards like the invitations and maybe part of it under the magnifying glass so those letters could be bigger than the others?
Since you don't like sheet cakes, what about making the cake look like a brief case with "Top Secret" stamped on the top. Make the brief case open partially and inside of it put the magnifying glass, a note written in code backwards....you could put your bomb in there (just use half of the ball pan)or even beside it. I also thought of the inspector gadget arm right away when I saw your post. You could put the foot prints around the cake board and cut some out of posterboard or black paper to place on the cake table leading up to the cake....or even put the foot prints from your front door leading to the cake table rather than actually putting them on the cake.
what a fun cake to make!! Make sure you post a picture when it's done!! ![]()
