I am so totally confused about everything, and I just feel sick at my stomach thinking about everything I am supposed to do. Please help.... I have already made one post today on cake tasting, and I think maybe I can handle that, but I need help figuring out what else to do, if by some chance I do get to do the wedding cake. I am just a cake decorator who does cakes here and there out of my home, for usually people I know. I don't have a bakery, I am just a plain jane girl, who loves doing cakes. I feel like I am not even qualified to do a cake tasting, expecially with other people who probably have their own cake shop. Knowing all of this about me, do I still have to do a contract? I don't know the first thing about doing anything like this. I have just been used to getting phone calls for birthday or shower cakes, and they tell me the flavor and what they want on it, and I go from there. I have no clue on the ins and outs of what I am supposed to do if I get to do this cake. This all seems way out of my league. I am also not sure on how you decide how much to charge either. Please help this west texas girl figure out what in the world I should be doing... Thank you so much, and God Bless You All.....
Deep breath!!! Better now? ![]()
A contract can be as simple as just listing out everything that is expected from the bride (payment, due dates, information) and from you (cake style, flavors, delivery, etc). Don't stress it with being so complicated .... I explain it to brides as "Just be sure that what I've written down is what you are expecting. I talk to a lot of brides and between now and your wedding, I will NOT remember this conversation, so if it's not written down, it's not happening!"
There's a website with a sample contract (and I can't recall where it is ..... fellow CC'ers, help us out here!) that you can duplicate.
Just keep it simple....
