I am making a flip flop cake and i want to put them on "sand" what do you use to make sand?

Hi Tigerlily, I've seen some pretty awesome cakes here that have a sand effect and I believe I've read ground up graham crackers were used to create most of them. I've never made one myself though. Hope that helps.

I've also heard ground Nila wafers or brown sugar

my recipe:
2 parts graham crackers crushed
2 parts vanilla wafers crushed
1 part dark brown sugar.

mix very well. YUM!

Without a speical recipe you can use organic raw sugar. I used it for an Ariel cake I did and you couldn't tell the difference between the cake table "sand" and the real sand we used as part of the table decorations. It also has a nice sparkle to it.
