Over-Filled The Cake Pans....is It Ruined??
Decorating By angelas2babies Updated 10 Aug 2006 , 12:19am by jtkempton
I know this has probably been covered, but I put in 3 cakes in the oven, and I must have filled 2 of them a bit too much because aside from the stench of grilled chocolate now in my house I am staring at the eruptions in frustration.
This has never happened to me, so...are the cakes ruined? I just want to cry... ![]()

This cake has been a disaster from the start today. I have made 3 trips to the grocery store to get ingredients. It's hot and I know I'm sending bad vibes to my stove by mumbling about how I just don't want to bake anything today.
Sorry...I am ranting like a lunatic. Any thoughts? Should I let them continue baking?
Thank you
Angie
Angie,
I had the same problem yesterday with mine but I just let them bake then I leveled the top. The cakes still tasted great. Good luck. Yeah, my house smelled of burning cake, I dread having to clean out my oven! ![]()

Thank you, everyone.
The stench of failure is in the air tonight. ![]()
They are cooling right now. I do have a self-cleaning oven. It was way too late by the time I managed to throw in a cookie sheet to catch the drippings.
One of the cakes was a 6 inch test-trial one, and everyone was right...tastes fine. So, thank you. Lesson learned. No more pushing the limits on filling the pans!
Thanks again.

I did the same thing last weekend... the smell of burning chocolate cake must to have baked into the walls, because I cleaned the oven and threw out all the burned drips and I still have smell!! lol
My cakes were all salvaged ... I cut the tops/edges off of them and the cakes were decorated.. everyone raved over them so all ended well ... well except for the burn smell which still lingers ![]()
Doesn't it seem like everything always happens at once? I mean, you ran to the store several times...fill the pans too full...have the cakes errupt like Mt. Saint Helens? I hate days like that.
I have done the same thing, and what a lovely scent to fill your home! I've never had any problems when using a cake when the pans been full, just trim like the other suggestions, and you'll be good.
It's so easy to over-fill them - since every batter seems to have it's own way of doing things.
Have a great evening, and this just means the weekend HAS to be better! ![]()
Well...the chocolate cake from the depths of fire ravaged HADES is continuing to suck the life out of me.
(Deep breath)
I started making the chocolate frosting for it and decided to add some melted chocolate...I accidently set the microwave to 3:00 instead of :30 and not only burned the chocolate, but melted the squeeze bottle I decided to put it in. (Not the way the sane me would have gone about melting chocolate, but hey, it's that kind of day.)
I melted more chocolate and threw it into the blender only to realize that most of it hadn't thoroughly melted.... ![]()

Yes, more frustration.
And my bright idea was...get this...to just put all the frosting with the chunks of chocolate into the microwave for a minute.
Laugh all you want.
I'm going to go have some wine with my whine. My soupy frosting is looking very unhappy. I put it in the fridge and we'll see where my science experiment will take me.

Angie, you are cracking me up! I know it's not funny while it's happening to you, but.... ![]()
sorry about your rough day~
=) Enjoy your wine!
The cake is done...and it's curse lived on to the bitter end. I broke 24 of the plaques I made for the top...I had just enough in the end for the cake. They aren't kidding when they say to make extras. ![]()
Thanks everyone.
