OK, I want to make sure I get this right. I am doing an 8" round cake, but it is 3 layers instead of 2. The cake is being picked up from me (in SE Virgina) and they are driving it to the party somewhere in Maryland. How many dowel rods do I need to use to make sure the cake is stable?

No, just a single cake, 3 layers. I'm scared that with the excessive heat and the long way the cake has to travel the individual layers may shift. Do I not need any if it isn't a tiered cake?

I would think that one dowel down the center of all 3 layers would be good enough, unless you are torting and filling, then I may use 2.
