I have a very tight schedule this week and need to make a cake on top of it all. I was thinking I could do a FBCT tonight for a cake Sunday...is this too long for it to be frozen? Also, I have some left over icing but it is all Crisco...can I use this or should I do a recipe of 1/2 butter 1/2 crisco...did I mention this will be my first FBCT? I am so nervous!

Yeah I have 5 family birthdays all in a 10 day span in August and I work a minimum of 40 hours a week, so you guys know I'll be scrambling. I need to do mine ahead of time too and this is a good question for me too...

IMO, I think you are ok. I did my FBCT a week in advance and kept them in the freezer.

My recipe that I used was just the standard wilton bc recipe, all crisco, no butter. They peeled right off the waxed paper with no problems.

Good Luck!

I work full time and I made to bratz FBT 1 1/2 weeks before the party. Let it get frozen then put in a container. Then use when needed.

I've had them well wrapped in the freezer for a few days. If you're worried about family putting something on it make sure it's in a container.

I have a fbct in my freezer...it's been in there hmmmm about 6 months...I really don't plan on using it. I made 2 of one just in case the first one didn't make the transfer. It's been in there....I should take it out and see what happens...maybe taste it...maybe. lol
Anyway, because I work a full time job outside the house, when I get an order for one, I try to go ahead and do it...it has been upwards of 3 weeks in advance...but they get placed on cardboard then wrapped. I use the Wilton all Crisco b/c. No problems so far.
I'll let ya'll know how the lone fbct that's been roaming around in my freezer turns out later this evening. I'll do the tasting and testing of it then.

I would imagine that guards against odour absorption too thumbs_up.gif

Good question, glad you asked that, now that I did my first FBCT last weekend, I wanna do more, doing ahead of time is more practical for me too.

Another suggestion put a box of baking soda to help with an order. You may not smell it right away but your frosting may take it in. Plus by putting in a container you can stack them inside and not worry about something or someone smashing them.

i usually do my fbct's a week in advance and have never had a problem. i slide them onto a piece of cardboard, then into a ziploc freezer bag before i put it in a container - usually a cookie tin or sterilite box. i double bag the sterilite too because i worry about odors.
