Hi everyone, just bought my daughter an adorable marshmallow pop. The shape is the Hello Kitty cat and it is decorated with what seams to be royal icing. Sorry but don't have a picture to show you, but the marshmallow is flat and round (like a cookie) with the decorations on top. Any ideas on how this can be made? I was thinking of using marshmallow fluff and pouring into a mold then decorating it but I don't know how the marshmallow will firm up.

Here's a link to one from Sponge Bob.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Marshmallow cream (fluff) won't firm up enough. I suggest using a recipe to make your own marshmallows--don't have one let me know and I can dig my out and get a copy to you. Homemade are much better tasting anyway. To make a form pour flour into cake pans--sheet cake or what ever size you have on hand. Make the flour layer a few inches deep. Then if you have a ookie cutter in the shape you want turn it upside down--the flat side and press into the flour to make the mold. The flour will hold the shape; pour the warm marshmallow mix into the mold and put the stick into the marshmallow. Sprinkle some flour on the top to keep everything else from sticking to it. Let set for a few hours to firm up. Remove from the flour and dust the extra flour off. Decorate. I made marshmallow eggs for Easter and they are very good--dipped in chocolate of course. Hope this helps?

Wow! Birdgirl, thank you for the quick response. I have seen the recipe on Martha's site. Did not know how much work this was!!! Thank you for the information. Yes, if you can, when you get a chance send me the recipe. Will put it on my to-do list.

Thanks,
Naty

Here is the recipe for home made marshmallows--it is very easy to make and they turn out every time.

Marshmallows

2 Tbsp unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup cold water
2 cups sugar
1 cup corn syrup- divided
3/4 cup hot water
2 tsp vanilla extract

about 8 lbs flour--for molds and I reuse mine when I am done.
Spread flour in pans and use upside down solid cookie cutter or for Easter a plastic egg and press into flour to make the molds.

In a small bowl sprinkle 2 Tablespoons unflavored gelatin (Knox) over 1/2 cup cold waterand set aside.

In a large saucepan combine 2 cups sugar, 1/2 cup corn syrup and 3/4 hot water. Bring to a boil and cook until it reaches 238 degrees on a candy thermometer. Remove from heat and stir in the remaining 1/2 cup corn syryp. Pour into a large mixing bowl and while beating on high speed with the wisk attachement add 1 Tbsp of the geletin at a time until all is incorperated. Mix until the candy is thick and lukewarm--10 minutes or so. Add 2 teaspoons vanilla and mix will. Spoon into the molds you made and sprinkle flour over the tops. Let set for 3 or 4 hours. Brush extra flour off and decorate away.

Makes around 36 large candies

Sticks can be added after pouring the mix in the molds.

They can be painted or dipped with white chocolate and details painted on after the chocolate has set up.

Also--it can be halved easily since it makes a large batch.
