Ok what is the best way to stack cakes that are already decorated? I have a 4 tier wedding cake due & am nervous to drive so thougt I would just put together at wedding site. I am using wooden dowels. I have tried before & each time I always manage to screw up the icing while stacking. Please help. icon_surprised.gificon_surprised.gificon_surprised.gificon_surprised.gif

I haven't really figured out how to stack cakes perfectly all the time without some nicks. I usually carry a repair kit with me when I deliver kits with a bag of buttercream, spatulas, extra decorations, etc... That way I can repair or cover anything that gets messed up in transportation/construction

I was just reading a tip in the general forum from another gal who says to leave the dowels sticking out 1 1/2" or so and not push them all the way in. Then place the next tier on the dowels, it gives time to get your hands out of the way and then the weight of the tier pushes the dowels all of the way in. Sounds like a great tip!!!!

Edited to add: It was Granpam who posted this tip, but she is not sure where the original idea came from. Sounds great to me though!
