I am going shopping for everything I need for my final cake in course 3 (need to take a loan out to by everything pans too icon_cry.gif ). I am going to use MMF for the cakes. How much MMF should I make for the 6" and 10" cakes I have to make? Thanks again for all your help-

Hey there, I just finished course 3. One batch of MMF will EASILY cover both the 10 and 6 inch cakes. I ended up with about 1/3 of the batch left over. I'm not sure how much it would take to do all the roses, maybe half a batch? I used one package of the wilton stuff for my roses and used almost all of it and I had 8 rosebuds, 12 medium, and almost 40 full size roses.

You'll also need fondant for the second class. One batch would be more than enough to cover the cake and do the ribbons and bow.

Do you have a Hobby Lobby near you? They have their 40% off coupons this week that you can print out from their web site. You have one day left. Use it to buy a set of round pans, it's a much better buy! I also recommend buying extra gumtex, what comes with the kit is barely enough. I added extra to mine anyway, for the ribbons and bow and all the flowers and leaves.

I also bought the mini cupcake liners and found them very useful for roses that popped off the toothpick. The liners are cheap and well worth it IMO. The foil liners they recommend for the lilly nail aren't necessary. I used them and had a few rip on me they were so thin. They are convenient though and also pretty cheap.

I spent less money on course 3 than either of the other two LOL. Feel free to pm me if you have other questions or if I didn't answer everything you asked. Oh yeah - do NOT coat the toothpick with shortening for the roses!

Thanks for your reply. I have already made my roses and leaves with left over fondant from class 2 icon_lol.gif . I was thinking about making MMF to cover the cake-do you think that should work? Or should I be safe and stay with the Wilton fondant

Dumb question here, a standard batch of MMF no matter where the recipe comes from, meaning using a 2 lb bag of confectioners sugar? I never pay attention to that when I'm baking to take note for next time, plus all the cakes I've done so far with MMF or RBC have been carved or odd shaped - harder to 'eye' than say oh this batch will cover 2-9 inches or whatever.
