DH had hemorrhoid removal surgery on Friday. Friday was awful, saturday was a bit better and Sunday he was feeling pretty good (considering he had stitches inside and outside),,, but no BM. Monday was spent trying to have a BM and feeling the urge, but NOTHING working, just bleeding. Today, finally a BM, but he's in SOOOOO much pain, is having problems urinating and can barely walk and is having to take pain meds nonstop almost a full 4 days post op...

I know the surgery was necessary, but holy cow...this is AWFUL!!!! we're afraid that he has a damaged interior sphincter or something... Cross your fingers for him, I'm taking him to the office tomorrow. Enough of this calling in to see what to do now. I think they need to see him... Don't you think that he should be getting BETTER not worse? Sometimes these outpatient things are sooooo wrong... He really needs to be monitored better and what would he do if he didn't have a stay at home wife to help him? You know?

Anyone know about this surgery?

Melissa

I will ask my brother-in-law in the morning, he works in surgery. I don't personally know, but it doesn't seem he should be in sooo much pain. Best of Luck!

Thanks everyone... he felt a bit better today, but he is 5 days post surgery (and this is like actually cut out hemmorhoids internal and external, not laser - laser didn't work). He's feeling like his interior sphincter isn't opening properly... So, when he has a BM (which he had again today 3 times), it's excruciating. We're calling tomorrow to see what more he can do... and there is still bleeding and everything with BMs... LOTS of pain.

I'm so sorry that your DH (and you!) are going through this. I had surgery about 6 years ago to repair an anal fissure (tear) and remove internal hemorrhoids, and the recovery from the surgery was the worst thing I've ever experienced in my life. icon_cry.gif I was in excruciating pain for about 2 weeks after surgery. I was literally in bed for that whole 2 weeks. I was completely unable to have a BM for those entire 2 weeks icon_eek.gificon_surprised.giftapedshut.gificon_cry.gif, so you can imagine the discomfort from that, too. I tried enemas, laxatives, you name it ... nothing worked. I kept calling the doctor and they just kept telling me to try enemas and laxatives. I was in misery. icon_cry.gif Finally, after 2 weeks, I was able to go, and it was excruciating and horrible, and I lost a lot of blood from that. icon_cry.gif Even for a few months after that, I still had lots of problems. So anyway, I know this is all WAY TMI, icon_redface.gif but I just wanted to share my bad experience so you would know that it does happen. I hope that your DH's doctor can do something to help him. (((HUGS)))

Actually he does. When you are in big pain and can't find resources and the doctors don't call back for HOURS, you try to find support/help where you can. Now, BEFORE surgery, he was a little embarassed to say it was "butt" surgery, but now? he doesn't care because it's BAD....
