What a pain in the pooper. I think I can count one time where my fondant came out good. I make it according to the directions but it never fails, it doesn't come out good. What am I doing wrong? Maybe I should try one of the other recipes for fondant. Or maybe I should just buy some Satin Ice or Fondx? It certainly would be less stressful.

My vote is for the SatinIce or Fondx! thumbs_up.gif

Definitely less stressful. Just a few clicks, a short wait and you have it icon_smile.gif

If you are making a lot of cakes or large cakes, they I would recommend buying the premade fondant like Satin Ice or Pettinece.

If its for a small cake, then you can make your own. I do the Wilton recipe and jazz it up with almond extract.

I tried MMF a couple of times and it was OK, but I didn't find it very forgiving. So I tried Collette Peters' recipe (which I posted in a forum here somewhere if you want to try it) and had a much easier time with it.

Honestly, though, I just got tired of making it myself. So now I just buy Satin Ice whenever I need it. Besides saving me time and cleanup, a good number of my family members are vegan or vegetarian and Satin Ice doesn't have any gelatin in it, so I can use it for family cakes too.

Can anyone make a recommendation where to buy Fondx or Satin Ice where it is the cheapest and fastest? TIA

I hate making it also...but I keep making it ! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

are you using all the powder sugar? Ive learned not to....I mix it with my mixer just til it picks up most of the whats in the bowl....then I dump the gooey mess onto a new fresh pile of p. sugar....whats in the bowl usally gets funky....then I knead more in until it feels right....but I always have sugar left in the bag.

hope that helps!

I just started using rhonda's mmf and every time I have made it it has turned out great no gooey mess not to dry everything works. and the best part is I dont use my stand mixer at all so theres no worry of the paddles getting all gooey or the motor blowing out on me.

I tried 2 different recipes for MMF and one came out ok but it made SUCH a mess! ( Had it all over my hands before it finally acted right!) The other one (using the marshmallow fluff) never hardened! Can anyone tell me how long Satin Ice is good for? I wouldn't mind buying it I just want to know how long its shelf life is.

I've made it with success in the past but what I don't like is how hard it gets the next day.

I made a batch one time, wrapped and saved it in a sealed container, and when I took it out to use it the next day, it was as hard as a rock.

You can beat the taste, but I didn't like how hard it got the next day.

I left my lateist batch of rhonda's in the cabinet just wrapped in plastic wrap for a week and took it out popped it in the microwave for a few seconds and it was great. and the next day when i had hoped my bow pieces had become hard they were as soft as ever.
