I have a bottle of pearl luster dust and a bottle of vodka. I have spent the past hour changing the ratios of dust to vodka and I don't think I'm doing this correctly. icon_confused.gif I see brush lines and my fondant pieces are still sticky. icon_mad.gif Should I be using a certain type of paint brush (I'm using a tiny one), or should the mixture be thick like paint (it is runny)? I'm giving serious consideration to mixing the vodka with orange juice and forgetting the whole thing. icon_rolleyes.gif Any help would be appreciated!

If painting a large surface (cake top and sides), I actually use a foam brush. I find it makes the work faster. It does soak up more dust/vodka though. For small areas, I use a flat end brush with soft, natural bristles.

I mix mine until it is paint-like consistency but still thin enough that it moves when the container is tipped to one side.

A side of vodka and orange juice also helps a lot icon_lol.gif

Thanks Miriel! About how much vodka to luster dust are we talking...drops? (For the painting, not the drinking!

I don't measure so I can't really say. Sorry. I place a small mound of luster dust on a plate and use a plastic dropper to add the vodka until slightly thinner than paint consistency. If I see chunks of luster dust after I mix, I add drops of vodka.

Yes, definitely if you are painting larger areas, use a larger brush. Good quality artist brushes also help reduce the streaking--brushes with sable bristles work very well.

I add my vodka to the dust with a medicine dropper until I get the right consistency. Keep the vodka on hand so that you can add more as it does evaporate.
