What is the secret to perfect chocolate curls. Do you use real chocolate or chocolate fondant. Do you use a knife or is there a special tool etc. . . . .

Real chocolate.
Warmed up about 5-10 seconds in the microwave.
Using a vegetable peeler.

Yes, I use real chocolate, too, and nuked for a few seconds. I find that the newer type of vegetable peeler (the kind that you pull toward you ... kind of shaped like a shaving razor?!) works better than the traditional vegetable peeler (the kind where the peeler part is an continuous extension of the handle). I hope this makes sense ... icon_smile.gif

Thanks! I will look for a new vegetable peeler. I have had this one for 26 years, it is probably not the one you mentioned!

Well, I did a little research and it turns out that the "old" kind of peeler is called a swivel peeler and the "new" kind is called a Y-peeler. Here's a link to a picture of a Y-peeler, just so you know what I'm talking about:

Don't feel like you have to get a new one ... the old kind works fine. But IMO, I just think the Y-peeler is easier and makes better curls. icon_smile.gif

P.S. - I love your avatar. I am such a sucker for sunflowers! So cheerful and beautiful!! icon_smile.gif

iv made chocolate curls using a hair dryer and a round cookie cutter.. works great on a large block of chocolate... to get the long skinny curls i coat the back of a cookie sheet with melted chocolate.. let it set and use a spackler (the tool used to fill in cracks in the walls.. lol) obviously use a new one.. lol .. works great icon_smile.gif.. just make sure the chocolate isnt too thick or cold when u try to puch the tool against the chocolate

I use the almond bark chocolate you get in the grocery store with the veggie peeler.

cakesbyjess I like the look of that veggie peeler, I think I will pick one up.

About the avatar, we have a 25 acre field of sunflowers, and that was one of them. We had a picture we took this year blown up huge and framed to go behind our couch that looks like sunflowers go on forever icon_smile.gif Send your email address if you want me to try to send it to you icon_smile.gif
