How does a lot of people have home bakeries in states that don't licence?
I live in Oklahoma and would love to have a home bakery but I didn't think I could. Can some please let me know if my dream will ever come true to make a business out of my passion. Thank you

if people have a home bakery in a state that won't allow it, then they are baking and selling illegally. if your state doesn't allow home bakeries i would check with local restaurants to see if you can rent some space. im working on a deal with a caterer, who doesn't do wedding cakes, to let me use his commercial kitchen (licensed and inspected) even though my state does allow home bakeries. i want to keep this mess out of my home, and be able to tell my brides that i do bake in an inspected and commercial space.

how does that work? If you use another kitchen which is licensed it is ok? What would be the first thing I would need to do?

the first question is, what state do you live in? the rules for your state may be different than mine. many states will allow you to have a kitchen on your property, but it has to be separate from the house. some require commercial grade equipment. most i think will be okay if you rent a licensed kitchen from someone who is already following the rules. you should first call your state health or ag department (diff states have home bakeries under diff departments) and find out what the requirements are in your state.
