I am doing a cake for my mother's 60th birthday and she wants PB icing on her chocolate cake. I looked up a recipe from this site, but I am unsure if it will crust...
Anyone have a recipe for one that will crust or know how to adjust a regular buttercream icing recipe? Can that even be done? (I wanted something that would crust bc quite frankly my edges are never sharp- so I would prefer to do the paper towel method.)
HELP!?!
I'm going to give you a bump because I'd love to have a crusting PB icing recipe as well!
I found this site. Tons of icing and filling recipes, even a peanut butter one. Hope this helps.

Your welcome cakesbyjess! Love the avatar! Very cute.
Thanks petitesweet ... I have a soft spot for the heffalump. ![]()
steffy8, thanks for the info. That's great to know. I was a little afraid that the PB would make the BC too soft. It's good to know that it works just fine. ![]()
Thanks for all the replies. I didn't get a chance to check out the site that petitesweet offered, but I am going to! I went ahead and used the recipe I found on this site (listed below).
I worked well as far as doing the icing and the decoration (shell border), but the crumb coat didn't work so hot for me. It was kind of thick, but I managed. Keep in mind that I was out of my element (decorating a cake in a hotel room with my three kids bopping around-not to mention hauling half of my decorating stuff to Eastern PA from Columbus, OH and keeping it all cool and fresh).
The smoothing and borders worked just fine, but the papertowel got oily very quickly. Like Steffy said, it kinda crusts, but not like regular buttercream.
I'll post the picture of the cake in my photos now...

Here's the recipe-
1/2 cup butter
1 cup creamy peanut butter
4 cups confectioners' sugar
1/3 cup cream
1 In a large bowl, beat butter and peanut butter until light and fluffy.
2 Slowly beat in 1/2 of the confectioner's sugar.
Mix in 1/4 cup of the cream.
Beat in the remaining confectioners' sugar.
If necessary, add a little more cream or milk until the frosting reaches a good spreading consistency.
Makes enough to frost one 2 layer 9 inch cake or one 9x13 inch cake.
