I would love to know this too! I live in Jones - I have thought about taking the Wilton classes, but you never know what kind of instructor you're going to get! I need help with BC, but really not with all the other stuff - not exactly a beginner! LOL I hope someone has an answer to this!
Try Cake and Candy Connection, they are in the process of moving to a new location, they are a bakery and cake supply store, they also teach amazing classes, way more stuff than the Wilton stuff!!! pm I will tell both of you all about it and share some of the pictures of the cakes I made.
They are at Portland and 14th St. I think may be 16th St but they are moving to Rockwell and NW Expressway, their current phone number is 942-3232 they're classes are $60 per course, for eight weeks, once a week from 6-9pm they have basic, intermediate and advanced. I recently finished intermediate and start edvanced on June 25th, ask for Cherry she is the instructor and owner, she is a very sweet lady! It is family owned and they are so much fun!!!!
If you do call Cherry ask her if she knows Patty from her cake class.
I also start classes at Cake and Candy Connection but mine start the 28th and they will be the Intermediate ones! Small world huh? I too love that store and am so excited they are opening another store!!
Does anyone know if there is anything similar in the Tulsa area? Decorating classes, advanced lessons, etc.? I've also completed all of the Wilton classes, and am ready for something more advanced. OKC is a bit of a drive for me...

Wow! I can't believe you drive all the way from Enid! My cousins grew up there and I know it's a bit of a drive!
Wouldn't it be nice if we could find more local CCers and get together for some cake fun!?
Yep that would be fun! Do you live in OKC? I also drove there last summer for the beginner classes but it was a blast!!!
sorry Dorothycolaw-I can't help you there. I don't know anything about Tulsa area except you are right about the drive. I can make it to OKC in about an hour. Hope someone else can help you

Small World, Kerri where are you?...... ( Kerri another fellow CC member from Ok)
Thanks everyone for the feedback. I signed up and cant wait to start. They hope to be in their new location next week. Patty, she said "she is so fun" when I mentioned you. Thanks for the great info. It sound like it is going to be really informative and fun!
To those in the Tulsa area pm me. I might be able to help you.
This is not cake related, but I wanted you all to know we just got back from visiting friends in OKC, and we loved the area! What a great place to live!

I think we are SOL......... if you hear of anything, let me know. I'm starting my last Wilton class (Gumpaste) on Saturday and am anxious to continue my decorating "education".
We went to Moore, OK. We saw the airshow at Tinker Airforce base, then on Sunday we visited the OKC Memorial. That was a very prfound experience. We had a great weekend! Everyone was so nice...

I am so glad you liked Oklahoma City, I like living here although I don't belong anywhere
How are these classess different than the wilton. I would be interested also. I can't leave that store without spending a hundred bucks, I only go in for a filling bag and next thing i know my kids are yelling from the car, "done yet". I just finished all four wilton classes, and wonder how they are different. I live in Newcastle, and actually a little sad about them moving, I just finally figured out how not to drive past them. Honestly, I have never been any other cake store but them and Michaels. I should get out more, but why when you find what you need.
Hey, sltoklahoma! How are ya! Don't forget about Midwest Bakers' Supply on 10th street - practically around the corner! They aren't as large and don't have everything Cake and Candy does, but I was shopping there before I realized Cake and Candy existed - so they are pretty good and have decent prices! You can at least pick up what you need if you can't make it all the way across town to the new location!
This is a great thread - I'm happy to see a few okies on here! I was really serious about getting together, though. I know it may be complicated with schedules and such, but we ought to try! If everyone would post what city they're from and how often they're in this area? Or if you're local like OKC, Edmond, Moore, Norman, MWC, Del City, etc - then maybe suggest days or times of the year that are less busy for you? I know right now is when I have a lot of birthday planning and things of that nature, but in a couple of months it may slow down. Saturdays are usually better for me, but I could probably work out other times - I have a teenager who can babysit if need be!
the classes at cake and candy are longer so therefore she teaches more techniques than Wilton, she also gives you a lot of baking tips and icing tips which I wish I knew when I took my Wilton classes. Also I think they are more detailed and she really helps you if you are having a hard time.
I will also love to meet I live in North OKC right by where the new Cake and Candy is going to be!!!!! 5 minutes for me!
I have never gone to Midwest Bakers I don't think I ever will with Cake and Candy being so close to me and all. I called them once looking for a specific cookie cutter and they wouldn't tell if they had it he told me I had to go in and see what they had!!!! Anyways even if they are cheaper Cake and Candy is closer
notjustcake - I'm surprised he wouldn't look for you! My DH goes in to pick up my supplies most of the time, because he works closer than we live, and I'll just call them and tell them what I need and they get it ready for him to pick up! (since he has absolutely no idea what to look for! LOL) But I wouldn't go there if cake and candy was THAT close to me! I'm jealous!
BTW - never talk to the guy! I had him set something aside for me once and it was the wrong thing! I don't know why they let him answer the phone - they told me later if I have a question - ask the ladies!! LOL He doesn't really have a clue! ![]()
How funny I hear that from other cake ladies that the problems with MWB's is the guy that asnwers the phone, I just laugh now I have Cake and Candy for life!!!
