(The actual cheese, not icing...)

I bought several boxes of cream cheese to make icing for a cake I did on the 16th. I took them out of the boxes but ended up only using one package because the recipe made more icing than I anticipated. The rest are still sealed, unopened in their foil. Now I have no idea when it expires since the box is gone! Does anyone know how long it is usually good?? I'm doing a cake tomorrow that I need cream cheese for, but don't want to take any chances if I'm cutting it close...

Cream cheese usually has a date for over a year. You are fine.

You might check the cream cheese box. All the cream cheese I buy shows an expiration date on the box. It keeps for quite a while.

You are safe! Cream cheese in its sealed unopened package lasts a long time. I bought 2 boxes 2 weeks ago..ran to the frig. and it says "sell by date Dec. 26 06" So I say you are good to go!

Different sources say different things. And then the best before date doesnt always hold true cause you know you've had it happen where you go to pour milk or something and it's gone bad and the expiry date hasnt even happened yet!
Some sources say in the fridge 3 weeks, Kraft website says theirs has a shelf life of 4 months? I Wouldnt wanna test that out LOL But Kraft website also says you can freeze it for up to 2 months to use in recipes after. (I have, not sure what the freezing would do in terms of using it for icing though)
