I've done only one FBCT of Dora and Boots. It turned out great. I used the FBCT icing recipe on this site to do it with. On my first attempt my image wasn't any thicker than a quarter inch, probably closer to an 8th of an inch, and it turned out beautifully. I'll post my picture this evening if I get a chance. A helpful hint, do it on a glass cutting board so you can see your process along the way. Good luck!
I had problems with my outline breaking, so I will make sure my next FBCT has a thick/sturdy outline.
Actually I am wanting to try a piping gel transfer now and hope to do that maybe tomorrow. If I don't like my work, I will be doing a FBCT for a party Saturday.

What size tip would you use for the outline and for filling in?
I do not think there is a certain tip that you have to use for your transfer. If you are doing a smaller picture a smaller tip would probably give you a better look when outlining. If you are doing a large picture then you may need/want a larger tip. A 2 or 3 should be a good size for a average size picture. For the fill in I have used anything from a 3 to 8 depend on how large the area was.
anybody know,, when you do the outline and then you are filling in your colors,, for more thickness,, do you also go back over the outline ,, is it not the same thickness? Maybe that's why mine didn't turn out well,,
There is no set rules for these transfers. Everyone does their a little bit differently and you may have to play around with it to see what works best for you. If you feel like you need to go back over your outline then do so. I have done this before. I have also used what ever color I had more of to go to the edge of the outline and over it if my transfer was thicker than the outline. If you do this just put a border around it after you put it on the cake to cover up the edges.

That could be. If your transfer sticks to the paper or rips in the middle of pulling it off it is possible that you did not do it thick enough. These things thaw faster and the thinner it is the faster it thaws. Also make sure you do not waste any time in the process of removing it from the freezer, placing it on the cake and removing the wax paper. This has to be done in as little time as possible.
My FBCT came out OK. There were a couple spots were the black ran. Some parts that I filled in looked a little "wormy". I must not have smoothed it out enough. But I wanted to thank everyone for the help. I'm sure my next one will be better (It better be, I'm doing it for my BFF DD on sat.) Thanks again, Kristen
I was practicing my lettering and my son was taking it right off, he also was having fun smashing the dots and poking holes in the cake and he stuck his finger on the girl on the right. Luckily it was a practice cake. I have lots and lots of room for improvement =)
