This might seem like a silly question but when you attach an actual ribbon for the bottom border of the cake how do you get it to stay together at the ends where is would overlap? Do you just stick it together with icing? Thank you in advance for any ideas.

I take a small piece of tape and tape the ribbon overlap together so the tape isn't visible.

I did a wired ribbon last weekend that didn't need tape, though; it just stayed where it was put.

A dab of royal icing on the overlapped part of the ribbon will hold it with no visible mark

I too use a bit of icing and fold the edge over so it looks nice and neat!

I would go with tape, or royal icing. Be careful not to do it with buttercream, the grease will soak through your pretty ribbon and make it all yucky!

Thank you all for the ideas I think I will try the tape. It is nice to be able to ask questions and get lots of answers back.

I have used a small straight pin in the back of the cake. Just be sure to point it out so whoever is cutting it removes it with the ribbon!
