I want to order some fondant from cakedeco.com but I was wondering if the shipping was reasonable since you dont find out until later how much it will be.

I was worried about the same thing. I placed my order and was shipped exactly what my UPS estimate was ( I went to UPS.com and did a quick track on cost/time based on what I thought shipping weight would be) They were very good, quick shipping and great prices! I will shop with them again!

But aren't they the company that requires a $100.00 minimum order?

Oh do they? I did not see that on their site. Does anyone know?

Actually it is a $50 minimum order, not hard to do if you need to stock up on anything or with 2 tubs of fondant! I stocked upon some replacement cake pans with my order because the prices and quality are fantastic!

They will take a smaller order with a $7 fee for it.

It also depends on where they are shipping to. I am in Alaska and ordered $50 worth of product (only 1 5lb. tub of fondant). It cost me $65 to ship it here, and that was the slowest shipping charges. I also did not know what the total charge was until after I paid for the product. Go through DecoPac for Satin Ice fondant.

I just looked at decopac. Looks like you need to be a business with a tax id. Is that right?

You can give them your social security number instead. They are not currently looking for distributors (as of 6/04/07), so you are not allowed to purchase the character items in the front half of the catalog, but there is so many other things that make using them worth it.

Do you find out how much things cost after you sign up? Their website did not have prices.

Also back to my question about pheil and holing, if you see that shipping is too high, can you cancel the order or are you pretty much locked in after you place your order?

You can not cancel after you find out shipping, you can return the entire order though they will probably not refund shipping plus. I would take what you want to order and estimate the weight then go to the UPS website and estimate shipping cost and time. The zip they are shipping from is 11377 Woodside, NY. I went on and did a quick estimate from them to you 15 lbs. shipping would be $12.23. 20 lbs is $13.88. I was impressed with them and will order again. You live in Michigan so shipping would not be that bad.
I even tried calling and asking, I was told they do not know until they ship but I was able to find out after they shipped it (before I received it). I also received it two days after ordering.

merissa, yes you will find out the prices once you apply. The fondant is $13 for a 5lb tub, and s&h to Alaska was only $27, no matter if you order 5lbs. or 100lbs. (extremely cheap for us up here). If another company is better for you, go with them, just letting ya know what DecoPac did for me.

I definitely agree, go with who gives you the best deal! I was very leary of Pfeil and Holing at first as well. I went with them because they were one of the only ways to get Fondx around here. I have also registered with DecoPac and the prices look great, thanks for the info!

So, Wolfley29, anyone can order from DecoPac if you give them your social? That would be wonderful!

Yep, now there are certain things that you can't order if you are not a distributor for them, but normal supplies, fondant and tools are okay to order. They are very friendly over the phone and will help you with anything you need.

I LOVE P&H!! OF course I am in MA and they are in NY so shipping is great for me - they say they only charge actual shipping costs to you. I have found them VERY fast and the lowest price I have seen (after factoring shipping) on Pettinice Fondant as well.

Highly recommend them - I've never noticed the $50 limit, I must always go over, I figure if I am buying 1 tub of fondant I might as well get 2 to make shipping everything worth it.

I just callrd and I have a DecoPac book on it's way to me! I will only be able to purchase cake decorating tools, not licenses products. That's fine by me, yay! I am so excited to see it! Thanks Wolf

Now, does P&H have a catalog? icon_biggrin.gif

I was just on the deco pac website looking to register and they require company name and business type. What did you all put in there? I sort of have a name, but haven't actually done any "business" yet.

I am always so scared to go of of the norm... using my social as the FID is all good, but the rest makes me nervous! LOL.... icon_rolleyes.gif

Just wondering again about shipping. What about caljava? Their fondx is a little more expensive (31 for 10 pounds vs. 24 from pfeil and holing) but their shipping is so inexpensive. a $200 order is free shipping. I am just wondering if it would actually be cheaper to go through there. any experience with that?

Does this seem like a deal? icon_eek.gif It seems to me that satin ice is a little more expensive than fondx so that is why I was looking at purchasing that. but I just found at intotheoven has 20 pounds of satin ice for 49.99 and shipping was like 10.50 to me. Is that a good deal? It seems like it is.

Jenndga, I just called and asked them if I could buy from them since I didn't have a tax id number. She just took my name and address and said it would be on it's way to me!

The lady I used to work for has ordered from both P&F and caljava. We were pleased with both companies.
