Hi everyone,
I'm not sure where to post this, but I need some ideas! I'm in desperate help and time is running out..this is for my first paid cake for a friend. I just KNOW it will open many doors for me since they said they needed a new cake lady cause their other ended up with carpal tunnel.
Well here it goes, The cake is due this Friday and it's for Father's day. However her husband loves cars especially the older model types. She sent me a picture of her husbands car and we agreed on an edible image on half a sheet cake, she also sent me another image of her husbands car club online and she wants to incorporate the ford logo somewhere on the cake. So with so many pictures she wants I'm at a loss as to how I want this cake to "be" without it looking so "busy", I thought of a Scrapbook cake, I do have the 2 layer book pan, but I have no idea how to incorporate this without it looking "plain" not to mention I know nothing about scrapbooking.
Any thoughts? I posted before for help and didn't get much of a response so I'm going to try again with my *fingers crossed* I REALLY appreciate ALL the help I can get!!
PLEASE help!
Thanks so much,
Michelle
The scrapbooking idea is really cute. You could put a title at the top of the page, like "Dad's toys" or " we love our dad" or something that combines Father's day and his love of cars. Then make different shaped pieces of fondant in different colors to back your edible images. and add little car cutouts or some transportation or some other little decorations around your pages, maybe the road of life, or something like that. That's how I do scrapbooking pages. Hope this helps!

Do a sheet cake with the front and back of the cake looking like a car. You can put the Ford logo somwhere at the back or along the side. The edible image can go on the top.
I also like the scrapbook idea!!!
The fun part about scrapbooking is that it doesn't have to be nice and neat! I mean, it'll be ok if it's a bit busy so you can add both pictures with different colour dondant ribbons and maybe a wheel here and a little car there...
I hope you find the ideas you are looking for. Good luck!! ![]()
You guys are really the best!! Thanks so much for the great ideas! I thought of making little stuff out of fondant, like tires n stuff and wrenches maybe I've never done anything like that except for the usual cookie cutter cutouts lol so maybe I'll dig out my 16 mth olds little cars and see if I can copy the tires out of fondant, worth a try!
Also does anyone have any ideas on what type of piping for the borders of the pictures? Just shells or?? Any thoughts on that would be sooo great!
If anyone else wants to throw in some ideas, please keep them coming!!
Thanks again!!
How about the edible image on top of the sheet cake. Then on the side do a chocoalte transfer or a frozen buttercream transfer on the front side of the cake>
Instead of doing borders for the pictures I would make fondant frames and then either color them differently or do a woodgrain effect on them. Please post a pic when you're done!
I have a couple of scrapbook page cakes in my gallery if you want to look for ideas - also search scrapbook in the gallery and you will find a bunch of great ones!
Or better yet - Google "scrapbook Father's Day car layout" and make your cake look like any good layout you find, using fondant as the "paper" and embellishments!
