My soon to be 5 year old son is overweight. I have been shopping for clothes for him to wear to school this fall, and I can't find pants!! He needs pants that have elastic waist all around, probably a size 10, maybe 8, but that's the sizes that they stop putting elastic in!!
Husky's don't even have elastic. My poor buddy, I don't want to send him to school in sweat pants everyday. ![]()

I know what it's like to be teased in school, and I know kids have gotten meaner over the years!! ![]()
If anyone can help me find somewhere that sells elastice pull on jeans or dress pants for a fairly reasonable price, I would really appreciate it! thanks for letting me vent! ![]()
Old Navy.....I dont think they are elastic, but they have an attachment inside the waste to let it out more if need be.....no to mention Old Navy is very good about their husky fit actually being a husky fit!
My brother has a son who went through a phase between 5 and 6th grade where they couldnt find clothes at all for him...I found him a pair of jeans at old navy that he was so happy to have because it looked normal but fit him wonderfully!!
hope that helps!
edited to fix spelling!!
I remember my little brother being over weight and wearing the husky size. It was when he was older than 5, so that was a little easier than you dilemma.
You have a big dilemma there! Is he excited to be going to school? My 5 yo is!!!
I am thinking that maybe you could try a very small mens size. A very very small mens size.
I'm sorry I can't help much, but I do wish you the best of luck.
Maybe you can buy some regular pants and get seamstress to put elastic in them for you.
yes old navy have the adjustable waitline. so does osh kosh and gap. ihave the opposite problem of you my oldest is stick thin and freakin tall. he needs a 5 for the waist but a 8 or 10 for the length. old navy and gap are the only place to get pants for him. because you can buy larger sizes and make them smaller if you need. why not try atletic pants. not tsweat pants but i guess they are more like wind pants. old navy has a great selection of those as well. macys i think has some jeans with elastic that come in sets with a shirt and hat or jacket. we have gotten our boys the set a set from there before and it actually came with all 4 pieces. if you live near a tangler outlet i would go there hope this is helpful
I would definitely try Old Navy and Gap...I have always had luck there. My son is slightly shorter than average, and every year or 18 months he starts to get a chubby tummy-then a few months later he shoots up a few inches and slims down! ![]()
If I recall correctly, the Old Navy's we bought were a husky, DID have some elastic AND had the adjustable waistline. Here is a link http://www.oldnavy.com/browse/product.do?cid=5942&pid=450138
Good luck!
Thank you all for your help. I will have to try old navy. Nearest one is 1 1/2 hrs. away, so we'll have to make a school shopping trip. (Yup, live in a very limited area!) Only store we have here is Walmart and JC Penney. I tried the adjustable waist pants at Walmart, and they didn't "adjust" enough. I'll have to try the other brands.
Lisa: the link you posted looks promising, but of course they are out of his size. I'll have to keep checking back on that...thanks.
mmdd: yes, he is excited to go to school. I really want this to be a postive experience for him. He has been blessed with wonderful family. MY grandparents watch him and my other son (2) while we're at work. So, their great-grandparents take care of them which is absolutely amazing. However, I am looking forward to him interacting with children his own age. He's very excited to have friends, and he loves playing school. What a fun age!

I too have a chunky monkey, mine is 8 and wieghs 116 and is 4 1/2 feet tall. He towers over his eniter class. Anyhoo, I have tried the wlamart adjustable pants but hey only work to make them smaller. JC Penney's and Sears has a brand ( can't remember) that makes pants that have a peice of elastic on the sides and it gives that extra strech. What I have been trying too is adding the elestic myself amd that has worked. Al you do is cut the side seams and buy elastic that matches the color pants. Than with very llittle to know sewing skills you just stich each end of the elastic to each end of the opening. You only need a very small peice because you will be adding to both sides so it isn't noticable at all.
Hope that helps.

HI mhill!!! My son's are overweight and the only pants I could find that would fit them around their waist and in the length are Levis.
They are a lifesaver to me. Like you....I live in a small town with nothing and I have to drive over an hour to get them.
HTH....Hugs, ~Denise
I have the same problem only mine is with my girls! My 9 year old wears a size 16, but not unless it is stretchy (she doesn't like tight things on her waist), and she is also tall for her age. My youngest is not quite 7 (next month) and is very tall and somewhat chunky and wears a 10/12.
My 9 year old son, however, is the total opposite! My Dinky Dude is short and super skinny! He wears a size 8 for length only.... he can still wear his size 4 'roos and actually has room to move in them! Poor little guy just barely hit 62 pounds while his sisters are in the 90's and hundreds.
Just measured his waist, cuz I was going to bid on some on ebay, and he has a 30" waist!!! ![]()

He is my "good" eater. He eats broccoli, peas, any raw vegatable really, fruits. If you give him a choice between a cookie and a cucumber, he'll choose the cuke! He's very active. In the summer he doesn't stop moving...swimming, bike, running, etc. I've had him tested for everything...thyroid, diabetes, etc. He is perfectly healthy, just overweight. ![]()

As long as he is making healthy choices and the doctors say he is healthy he will be fine! I promise. I have two uncles that were pretty chubby growing up until they hit 13-14. Then they lost weight and then they shot up in heigth and got even skinnier. So as tough as it is right now I promise it doesn't always have to be like this. Keep him eating right and staying active and you'll always have a healthy kid to take care of.
As for the pants I can't help, Sorry!
